yahwah yahwah [part 2]

part 2 is the part where i rode with friends six plus hours back to civilization, i mean, dallas to spend a few days at the dallas branch of fenlaws. i met my niece, caroline mclean, who her big brother jett lovingly calls "yahwah yahwah" [usually followed by a "SISssssy"]. she's tiny tiny and spent quite a bit of time nestled on my shoulder.

she turned one month while i was there. in case you didn't know, there's not much to a one month old human. they sleep. they cry. they eat [usually whilst falling asleep]. they poop. they spit up. for an adult, this list would be unacceptable, but for a baby it's cute, adorable, the most amazing thing you've ever seen. the reason for this seems to be a general celebration of her mere existence, which is a lovely thought. one of my favorite things was the challenge of getting her to stop crying. i'd pick her up, tuck her under my chin, and walk around with a bounce in my step. it worked [almost] every time. i'm not a baby person, but there is something incredible about holding a tiny, new life in your arms.

jett will be two in december. he's trying to talk, and he understands most of what you say to him. sunday afternoon i was laying in the floor watching the cowboys with jay, and jett discovered he could use my propped up legs as a jungle gym - crawling under, through, then standing waiting for me to trap him with my legs, followed by squeals as he tried to escape.

the best jett moment happened one night when my sister-in-law, emily, was getting jett ready for bed. he has figured out the routine, which is funny to watch. he was all ready, and emily was trying to get him to climb into his bed. he climbed up on his stool, and he paused with a thoughtful look on his face. he turned towards the living room, pointed, and said "yahwah yahwah. SISsssy". this meant he wanted to go kiss her goodnight. so he walked into the living room, leaned down, kissed her forehead, gave her a little pat on the head, then went and got in bed. i melted. it's fun watching him grow and figure even the little things out.

in addition to the jay fenlaws, dallas is home to many of my close friends. from sunday night to tuesday night, it was an assembly line of friends - drinks, dinner, coffee, lunch, more drinks, dinner. it was fast and furious, but i got some excellent face time in with people i don't see often. situations have changed, people have changed, but i'm thankful for the friendships that weather it all.

before i got to part 3, i had to endure an hour of crying/screaming/squaking-filled chaos as we attempted to pack up everyone up to head to austin. finally we got in the car, and the first thing out of my mouth was "i'm never having kids".
